I Want to Clear Up Some Confusion

Hi Y’all!

There seems to be a little confusion with what I wrote a couple of days back about the films that Leonard Slye worked on while he was still one of The Sons of the Pioneers.

I know that it’s sometimes difficult to reconcile the cast and credits of a movie with the actual cut version we see on screen.  Sometimes (in the old days) people worked on a film but we never got to see them because they ended up on the cutting room floor! This has happened to almost all actors at one time or another when they are starting and/or ending their careers. I believe that this is why Dad and The Pioneers were listed on a couple of casts where you don’t see them in the final film.

In “Tumbling Tumbleweeds,” I think that you do hear them singing in the background at one point.  (I’ll have to ask Karla Buhlman at Autry Entertainment about that as she is the expert on Gene’s films.)

Of course, the reverse is also true regarding credits. There are a lot of films where actors work on a film and are uncredited for their performance.

Nowadays this would (probably) never happen as even the kid who delivered pizza to the set is credited!!!

Anyway, I hope this will clear up some of your questions.

Cheryl

Your telling of the credits story is spot on. I truly love your “quips” especially about the pizza delivery guy.
You are like an old friend of mine from Thailand describing me when I made her laugh. “Joy, you are funny too much”. Cheryl, you are funny too much. Love it.

Thanks again for your great website. It was fun to run again the restored Tumbling Tumbleweeds, Gene Autry’s first starring feature with a great cast including George Hayes. Visually I did not see “the boys” in the picture which would occur at the claimed 3 exterior locations: Monogram Ranch (aka Melody Ranch), Victorville, & Bakersfield. However, about 10 minutes into the movie the song Tumbling Tumbleweeds has background singers which could be the Sons of the Pioneers. Also, at the end of the picture, the title song is repeated with similar background singers. It is difficult for me to say for sure that it is the Sons. It will take an expert ear to tell. If it was Roy and the boys that would confine their participation to the music recordings done at Republic Studios, unless any visual scenes had been cut.
